PMC Certification Class at Let’s Bead!

Let’s Bead! will host a Rio Rewards™ PMC® Certification class, sponsored by Rio Grande®, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., August 8th , 9th, & 10th, 2009. The class will be held at our store at 349 West Commercial Street in East Rochester, NY.

The Rio Grande Rio Rewards PMC Certification class is designed for serious and dedicated PMC enthusiasts who already have experience using this amazing material.

Each student who completes the class is enrolled in the Rio Grande Rio Rewards™ program, allowing him/her to receive discounts on PMC and other items from Rio Grande. In addition, each student receives a one-year membership to the PMC Guild—a $30 value. The class is limited to no more than 15 students. All needed materials are supplied and the cost for the class is just $425.

PMC Certification class

The Rio Grande Rio Rewards PMC Certification class is designed for the serious and dedicated PMC enthusiast who seeks the recognition that a standardized level of expertise offers. The curriculum is demanding and tests specific skills and techniques (apart from artistry) for working with PMC. Those who attend should already have considerable working experience with PMC and be comfortable with techniques such as slip-joining, creating hollow forms, constructing rings and working with two- and three-dimensional forms.

A series of seven specific projects test students’ proficiency in using PMC in a variety of ways. Techniques taught include stamping, carving, simple tool-making, gem-setting, building a hollow form, embellishing beads, patterning, texturing, mold-making, making slip, ring sizing, rehydrating PMC and surface finishes. Also included are various firing techniques, from kiln-firing to torch-firing, gold PMC, discussions on metallurgy, gemology, teaching techniques and ways to set up a PMC business.
