Beading Wire

SoftFlex®

SoftFlexSoftFlex® is a state-of-the-art bead stringing wire, constructed of either 21 or 49 micro stainless steel wires woven together and nylon-coated. It is hypoallergenic and can be worn in and out of salt or fresh water. It feels like fiber while offering the strength of stainless steel. It is one of the most flexible and stainless steel jewelry wires available.

Each SoftFlex® diameter was designed to handle certain levels of abrasion, everything from soft materials like pearls and seed beads, to rougher materials like glass, minerals, and metal. Consider the abrasion level of the beads used in order to determine the appropriate diameter of SoftFlex® to use. The thicker the wire, the better resistance to breakage it will have.

Wire Size Application

.014 fine (21 micro wires)
  • Designed for softer less abrasive materials, such as freshwater pearls and seed beads
  • Offers the softness and flexibility of pearl stringing threads, yet has the strength of stainless steel
  • Use a 2x2 crimp for a single strand

.019 medium (49 micro wires)
  • Designed for use with small to medium glass beads, Austrian crystals, silver, pewter, 80% of freshwater pearls and seed beads
  • Recommended when designing with a variety of materials in one project
  • Use a 2x2 crimp for a single strand

.024 heavy (49 micro wires)
  • Designed for abrasive materials and designs that will meet excessive movement, such as watchbands and bracelets
  • Great for multi-strand designs, African beads, and large stones
  • Use a 2x3 crimp for a single strand

SoftTouch®

SoftTouchSoftTouch® is a state-of-the-art bead stringing wire that is 50% softer and more flexible than SoftFlex®. Made from interwoven stainless steel strands, it feels like fiber while offering the strength of stainless steel. It can be knotted, is kink-resistant, and provides more versatile performance. Consider the abrasion level of the beads you are stringing in order to determine the appropriate diameter of SoftTouch® wire to use. The thicker the wire, the better resistance to breakage it will have.

Wire Size Application

.010 very fine (7 micro wires)
  • Used an embellishing thread with the strength of steel, designed for peyote stitch, crocheting, and bead weaving
  • Will pass through a #22 seed bead and will lie straighter than Nymo D
  • Use a 1x1 crimp for a single strand

Memory Wire

Memory WireMemory wire is made from stainless steel. It's called "memory" because it is already formed in the shape of rings, like a spring, and it stays in this form even if you pull it apart to string on beads. Memory wire is very easy to work with, and one size fits most anyone.

Memory wire is great for kid’s projects because it is easier to hold and string than regular beading wire. It comes in bracelet, ring, and necklace sizes. Finish the ends of memory wire either by bending the wire with a round-nose pliers, or gluing on a memory wire bead. Cut memory wire only with a memory wire cutting tool.
